Le 10 juin, un Brésilien de 22 ans, identifié comme R. G. G. Montoril, a été interpellé à l’aéroport international de Banjul. Arrivé à bord d’un vol en provenance de Bruxelles, il transportait plus de 16 000 pilules d’ecstasy dissimulées dans ses bagages, rapporte Les Échos.
Cinq jours plus tard, le 15 juin, poursuit la même source, un Sénégalais de 26 ans, A. Faye, originaire de Kaolack, a été arrêté au poste frontalier d’Amdalai avec 100 pilules dissimulées dans un sac en nylon.
Selon Les Échos, « les autorités gambiennes considèrent ces arrestations comme des avancées majeures dans le démantèlement d’un réseau transnational de trafic de drogue ». Les deux suspects sont actuellement placés en détention.
